Groundwire
A fully functional business SIP client for iOS and Android that includes conferencing and transferring.

Zoiper
Zoiper, the free softphone to make VoIP calls through your PBX or favorite SIP provider. Available for iPhone, Android, WP8, windows, mac and linux.

Groundwire and Zoiper are, at their core, two very clever pieces of software that allow humans to make noises at each other over the internet. They both support SIP, which sounds like something you'd do with tea but is actually rather important for talking. They run on various devices, encrypt conversations to keep out nosy intergalactic spies and let people juggle multiple accounts like a particularly well-organized octopus. If you need to talk to someone through a PBX system instead of, say, shouting out the window, they’ve got you covered.

Groundwire hails from the Czech Republic and has been around since 2010, making it a sprightly but well-matured piece of technology. It is particularly adored by business users who enjoy their calls packed with advanced SIP features and, presumably, a sense of quiet sophistication. It boasts push notifications to prevent your phone from dying of exhaustion and supports a dazzling array of codecs, ensuring that whatever noises you make, they’ll arrive at the other end in high fidelity.

Zoiper, on the other hand, was born in Bulgaria in 2003, meaning it’s been around since the days when people still thought flip phones were the peak of technology. Unlike Groundwire’s business-first approach, Zoiper is designed for both casual chatterers and companies who just want something that works without requiring a degree in telecommunications. It also supports IAX, which isn’t the name of a distant planet but another protocol for making calls and it kindly offers a free version for those who prefer their VoIP adventures on a budget.
