Three years ago we set out to create the #1 order and inventory platform for small businesses. Along the way, we joined forces with Intuit which has only brought us closer to that vision. Our team is now focused on using our expertise to deliver a world class order and inventory experience within QuickBooks Online.

Lettuce and QuickBooks are both business software, which is a bit like saying a screwdriver and a Swiss Army knife are both tools. They help businesses stay on top of things like inventory, money and general chaos. They also have cloud-based features, which means you can access them anywhere—useful for those moments when you need to check your finances from a beach in Bali or, more likely, a dimly lit office at 2 AM. Both integrate with other apps, ensuring that the digital machinery of capitalism keeps chugging along smoothly or at least with only the occasional ominous grinding noise.
Lettuce, despite its promisingly leafy name, was actually an order and inventory management system launched in 2012 in the USA. It was particularly beloved by e-commerce and wholesale businesses, who, for a brief time, believed they had found salvation in its streamlined, cloud-based embrace. Then Intuit came along in 2014, scooped it up like a toddler hoarding toys and later decided to retire it—presumably after a long meeting in which people used phrases like "strategic realignment" and "synergistic value assessment" without a trace of irony.
QuickBooks, on the other hand, has been around since 1983 and remains very much alive, possibly due to the fact that accountants and small business owners would riot if it ever disappeared. Created in the USA, it’s the go-to tool for managing finances, doing payroll and figuring out where all the money went (often a distressing revelation). Unlike Lettuce, it has survived numerous updates, rebrands and the occasional existential crisis, proving that sometimes the key to longevity is simply to be indispensable, slightly confusing and just annoying enough that switching to something else feels like too much effort.
