Feature-packed iPad point of sale. Reporting, analytics and support that will take your business to the next level. Track and manage stock all in one convenient place. Build your database and drive repeat business. Track hours worked and identify star performers.
Lightspeed and ShopKeep are both rather clever little systems designed to keep track of what humans are buying, selling and occasionally dropping on the floor. They both live in the cloud, which is not as fluffy as it sounds and they help businesses figure out who’s working, what’s in stock and why the coffee shop is always out of oat milk by 3 PM. If you’ve ever wanted to run multiple locations and have the ability to stare meaningfully at sales reports while sipping overpriced espresso, both will gladly let you do that.
Lightspeed, hailing from the vast and snowy lands of Canada since 2005, is the sort of system that assumes you enjoy complexity in your life. It caters to large, bustling retail empires, golf courses (yes, really) and anyone who believes inventory tracking should be an art form. It comes with analytics, loyalty programs and enough management tools to make you feel like a financial wizard—provided you don’t mind a bit of setup that may or may not induce mild existential dread.
ShopKeep, on the other hand, was born in the US in 2008 with the radical notion that small businesses exist and might not want to spend their entire existence configuring a POS system. It’s delightfully simple, wonderfully budget-friendly and particularly fond of cafes, quick-service restaurants and other places where people make poor decisions about sugar intake. It was happily doing its thing until Lightspeed came along and bought it in 2020, presumably to prevent it from having too much fun on its own.
