SuccessFactors
SAP SuccessFactors’ time-tested, analyst-recommended solutions drive goal execution across your business from top-to-bottom like no other alternative. By focusing on the three pillars of Business Execution excellence—Business Alignment, Team Execution and People Performance—SuccessFactors Business Execution Software delivers real business impact. It provides the foundation for organizational success by giving you the tools to put the right people in the right place to work on the right things.
Oracle Taleo and SAP SuccessFactors are two vast, cloud-based lifeforms that spend their time helping large corporations find, track and organize human beings in a manner that is both efficient and—ideally—legal. They both enjoy parsing résumés, generating analytics and ensuring that HR departments have something to click on when they need to justify their existence. Whether you are a multinational empire looking for your next middle manager or a confused applicant wondering why your application disappeared into the void, these two systems have, at some point, been involved.

Oracle Taleo, which originated in the United States in 1999 (which, coincidentally, was also a great time for boy bands and existential dread), is particularly fond of recruitment. It has a deep, abiding love for applicant tracking, job posting and making sure that hiring managers have 37 slightly different reports to choose from when making a decision they already made a week ago. However, it demands a certain level of technical worship from its users, preferring those who are willing to learn its quirks rather than those who expect software to simply work. It is particularly beloved by large organizations that need to wrangle thousands of applications while pretending to be personable.

SAP SuccessFactors, on the other hand, was born in Germany in 2001, which should already tell you something about its sense of structure and order. Unlike Taleo, which enjoys focusing on recruitment like a child obsessed with collecting action figures, SuccessFactors believes in the entire lifecycle of employment. From hiring to performance management to payroll, it wants to be the one system to rule them all. It has a strong commitment to employee engagement, a concept that most employees find both amusing and elusive. Organizations that want an all-in-one HR suite tend to prefer it, though whether it actually makes anyone’s life easier is a question best left to philosophy majors.
