WeTransfer
WeTransfer is a free service to send big or small files from A to B. WeTransfer users can send files up to 10GB in the free version.

If you’ve ever had the pleasure of sending large files across the great digital void, you’ll be pleased to know that both SwissTransfer and WeTransfer exist for your file-transmitting needs. They both share the same fundamental mission: to transport your hefty documents with little more effort than clicking a few buttons. Both allow transfers via simple web interfaces, both offer a free version with limits on how much you can send and both even throw in an email link to make sure your recipient doesn’t think you've just forgotten about them. They’re like the intergalactic postal service, but without the risk of a postman falling into a black hole.

SwissTransfer, however, comes from the serene and rather neutral land of Switzerland, where it arrived in 2018. The good people there, in their infinite wisdom, decided to prioritize security and privacy. The free version lets you send up to a robust 50GB in one go and everything gets encrypted, which is probably quite reassuring. Their target audience appears to be anyone who’s even remotely concerned about the possibility of an overzealous government peeking at their files—or perhaps just someone who doesn't want their precious documents floating around in some stranger's database. With SwissTransfer, you're treated to a no-frills, secure, one-time-only transfer system that won’t nag you to sign up for an account.

WeTransfer, on the other hand, hails from the Netherlands and has been around since 2009, offering a service that, while similar in its ease, leans more toward the creative professionals who prefer their tools to come with extra bells and whistles. They offer a free version for sending up to 2GB, but with their Pro version, you can send a whopping 200GB in a single go. The extra storage and collaborative features are perfect for designers, photographers and anyone who needs to send large files regularly. WeTransfer isn’t just a file-sharing service; it's the digital equivalent of a good, reliable office assistant who somehow manages to arrange everything with flair while looking casually cool.
